A bit about myself... I am a designer and art director with expansive and broad experience working in animation and film, specializing in environment design, concepts and colour styling. Coming from a history of 2D traditional paint and illustration skills, I mainly now work within various digital mediums. With 10 years experience working as a graphic designer and digital embroiderer, I had strengthened my traditional skills with corporate, sporting and educational branding. I then decided to further pursue more creative & challenging roles, in a field that I longed to work in for many years...film, TVC & animation. I firstly took on the role as Background-Landscape Painter with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, for the TV animated series Lil’ Elvis & The Truck Stoppers. Soon after, I was employed by Disney Toons Studios Australia, as a Background Artist. With close to 10 years of employment, I worked on 13 feature films & various other TV projects, and went on to become Background Head Supervisor, leading a very talented art department. With the work being so creatively expansive and stylized, and of such high standard expectations, the experience was challenging and very fufilling. I have recently just completed work on three 3D Maya based projects with Flying Bark Productions. Firstly as Set Designer and Environment Colour Stylist for the TV series Zeke's Pad. Then went on as Art Director for the 26 episode 3D series Legend of Enyo, which demanded a very high end realistic look on a very modest budget. And finally, I was appointed Assistant Art Director for the up and coming The Woodlies, a unique 2d - 3d project. As a freelance designer, I have taken on various ranges of design work duties, from a variety of creative clients & fields, ranging from architectural illustrations, concept character-environment design & matte painting. Recently I was hired as an Illustrator-Concept Artist for George Miller’s live action film, Justice League of America, working alongside a very high level production crew. Currently, I continue working in all digital mediums, with concept, motion graphics, art direction and design management. And also focusing on working within Maya enviroments, whether 3D, TVC or live action, strengthen my skills with modeling, texturing, matte painting and lighting. And when time permits, I like to work on original ideas with traditional mediums and occassionally like to work with textiles with my very talented fashion designer wife, Donna Sgro. I also have a very strong passion for photography, exotic plants and collecting beautiful, old records and vintage, tin toy robots! ....oh...and um...love watching Star Wars every weekend. |
